IEA Dodgeball Tournament

Happy Friday everyone!

Friday, March 1st is the IEA Dodgeball Tournament! If you'd like to form a team to participate, check out the details below!

IEA's Dodgeball Tournament is just around the corner! It will take place next week on Friday, March 1, 2013. We would love to see your club come out and raise money for charity.

Dodgeball teams consist of 8 players who must play on the same team for the entire tournament. The only exception for a sub-in is if a player gets injured. These teams do not have to be co-ed. To REGISTER YOUR TEAM please email aagarwa1@sgu.edu with your team name and verify that you have 8 people.

There will be a prize for the winning team and also for the team with the best-costume. There will also be food and drinks for sale so spread the word and tell everyone to come support your team and have a great time.

International Veterinary Forensics Sciences Association

Hey all - this was just forwarded to me.  For those of you interested in veterinary forensics it may be of interest and you may want to consider starting an SGU Chapter.  

The International Veterinary Forensic Sciences Association

WHO IS IVFSA:

     1).  Promote the health, welfare and safety of animals through the
fostering of current, new, and novel techniques of forensic science and
crime scene processing to circumstances of animal abuse, neglect, cruelty,
fighting, and death.
     2).  Apply forensic science techniques to legal investigations
involving animals as the victim of criminal offenses and civil disputes.
     3).  Educate the animal welfare community, law enforcement, crime
scene analysts, forensic scientists, veterinarians, attorneys, judges, and
pathologists on the application of forensic science techniques and crime
scene processing methods to cases of animal abuse, neglect, cruelty,
fighting, and death.
    4).  Inform the law enforcement and legal community on the various
scientific disciplines that can be utilized for the interpretation of
collected  physical evidence related to any crime scene where an animal's
presence or absence is relevant.
    5).  Advance and foster excellence in the veterinary forensic sciences.

  Join us in Orlando, Florida in May of 2013 for the IVFSA (along with the
ASPCA and University of Florida Maples Center) 6th Annual Veterinary
Forensic Science Conference!  Speakers from around the globe will provide
engaging and educational presentations, there will be ample time to
network with professionals in our field, and students will have the
opportunity to present.  Plus, what beats sunny Orlando in May?!

EARN A GRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN VETERINARY FORENSIC SCIENCE:
  The University of Florida's online graduate certificate program in
Veterinary Forensic Sciences is comprised of five 3-credit courses and is
provided by the University of Florida, College of Veterinary Medicine in
partnership with the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to
Animals (ASPCA).  The unique nature of this program is because of its
emphasis on the application of forensic science and medicine to veterinary
medicine and animal related crimes including animal cruelty cases.  Please

The American Veterinary Medical Foundation (AVMF) is dedicated to helping exceptional veterinary students achieve their goals in veterinary medicine. At the AVMF we are proud to support students through our scholarship programs.
The AVMF is reaching out to you today to inform you about our 2013 scholarship opportunities. Each year the AVMF awards a number of scholarships to outstanding veterinary students. This year our special awards will include:
     * A $2500 Winn Feline Foundation Scholarship which will be awarded to a 3rd or 4th year veterinary student who demonstrates a keen interest in cats.
     * A $500 Dr. Elinor McGrath Scholarship, named in honor of the profession's first female veterinarian
     * Aquatic Scholarships for students interested in pursuing a career in aquatic medicine or for students who are still undecided about their career focus and would like the opportunity to learn more about aquatic veterinary medicine.

Congratulations New Exec Board Members!

Thank you everyone for coming out to the First SCAVMA General Meeting of the term!!  We had a great turnout and are looking forward to the rest of the Spring term.

FIRST SCAVMA General Meeting

The much awaited 1st SCAVMA General Meeting is coming up...mark your calendars for this

TUESDAY, February 5th at 7pm in Alumni Hall

Join us on Tuesday, at 7pm in Alumni Hall for presentations about our Animal Welfare and Behavior and Public Health committees, summer opportunities, and coming events.

Also we will be electing our Vice-President and President Elect, come out and cast your vote!

We will have computers available if you still need to pay your SCAVMA dues and we should have the SAVMA ID numbers for those of you who's numbers we didn't have at registration.  Help up reach our 80% goal so our delegates (Ashley & Kirk) can vote on behalf of SGU at the National Symposium in March!!


For those of you that will be paying your SAVMA dues, please bring a credit/debit card as the process is online and we cannot take cash.

Also, a short presentation by Kirk Kasuya on an opportunity for SGU SVM students to visit Costa Rica this summer and gain clinical skills.

As a little enticement...door prizes and pizza will be available free of charge ;)
